Quick and Easy Exercises for Long Flights or Road Journeys

Long flights and road journeys can be tiring, especially when you have to sit in the same position for several hours. Staying still for too long may leave you feeling stiff and uncomfortable. Fortunately, a few simple exercises can help you stay active and refreshed during your journey.
One of the easiest exercises is ankle circles. While seated, lift one foot slightly and rotate your ankle slowly in circles. Repeat in both directions and then switch feet. You can also try ankle pumps by pointing your toes forward and then pulling them back towards you. These movements are simple enough to do in your seat and help keep your legs moving.
Neck and shoulder stretches are also useful. Gently tilt your head from side to side without forcing the movement. Then roll your shoulders backwards and forwards several times. These exercises can reduce stiffness caused by sitting in one position for a long time.
For your upper body, try a seated torso stretch. Sit upright, place your hands on your thighs, and gently turn your upper body to one side. Hold for a few seconds before repeating on the other side. Remember to move slowly and comfortably.
If you are travelling by car, never exercise while driving. Instead, take regular breaks at safe stopping areas. During these breaks, walk around for a few minutes, stretch your legs, and gently move your arms and shoulders.
On a flight, use opportunities to stand up and walk along the aisle when it is safe and permitted. Simple movements such as stretching your calves and walking for a few minutes can make a long journey more comfortable.
Most importantly, listen to your body and avoid any movement that causes pain. Staying hydrated, changing position regularly, and taking short movement breaks can make long journeys healthier and more enjoyable.
