HBO has dropped a brand-new teaser trailer for its highly anticipated Harry Potter television series, giving fans the most substantial glimpse yet at the reboot, which is being touted as one of 2026’s biggest releases. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, the first instalment in the planned seven-season series, is set to premiere on Christmas Day, December 25, 2026, on HBO and HBO Max.

Released on Wednesday, the trailer races through several of the first book’s biggest and most iconic moments. Interestingly, the new trailer also hints that HBO’s Harry Potter series won’t be confined to Harry’s perspective. One standout moment shows the Weasley family gathered at the Burrow as they receive their Hogwarts letters, with Harry nowhere in sight. The scene suggests the reboot could dig deeper into the Wizarding World, bringing book moments to life that the original films could only glimpse through Harry’s eyes.

The reboot boasts a sprawling ensemble, bringing together a new generation of students and the adults who inhabit Hogwarts. Newcomer Dominic McLaughlin takes on the iconic role of Harry Potter, stepping into the character that turned Daniel Radcliffe into a global star 25 years ago.

Arabella Stanton will play Hermione Granger, following in Emma Watson’s footsteps, while Alastair Stout takes over as Ron Weasley, the role previously made famous by Rupert Grint.

The new Hogwarts lineup also includes Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan and Elijah Oshin as Dean Thomas, Tristan Harland and Gabriel Harland as twins Fred and George Weasley, Ruari Spooner as Percy Weasley, Alessia Leoni as Parvati Patil, Sienna Moosah as Lavender Brown, Finn Stephens as Vincent Crabbe and William Nash as Gregory Goyle.

The cast also features John Lithgow as Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Snape and Nick Frost as Hagrid.

Unlike the films, HBO’s series will dedicate one season to each of J.K. Rowling’s seven books, allowing more room for character arcs, subplots and Wizarding World details that were previously left out.
