Ektaa Kapoor Announces The Dirty Picture 2

Producer Ektaa Kapoor has announced The Dirty Picture 2, a sequel to the 2011 film starring Vidya Balan. The announcement comes 15 years after the original film’s release, which earned Vidya her first National Film Award for her powerful portrayal of Silk Smitha.
Speaking on Ranveer Allahbadia’s podcast, Ektaa revealed that she had been considering a sequel for some time. However, she decided to move forward only after finding a story she felt was worth sharing with audiences.

Ektaa said the upcoming film would explore an individual’s life, much like the original, which was inspired by the life of South Indian actress Silk Smitha. The producer explained that the first film told the story of a woman who faced criticism for openly expressing her sexuality.
She added that she never viewed Silk Smitha as a victim but rather as someone who embraced and celebrated her sexuality. According to Ektaa, this perspective played an important role in shaping the original film, which received a strong response from audiences.
While confirming the sequel, Ektaa did not share details about its central character, cast or release date. She also kept the identity of the person whose story will be explored in the new film under wraps.
